Danny Lamagna is a Drum Workshop, Vater Percussion, Sabian Cymbal & Axis Percussion artist best known for his work with the bands Suicide City, Silent Fate, Sworn Enemy, Biohazard and guitarist Rob Balducci.
He has a powerful athletic approach to the instrument with an emphasis on groove, control and expression. The quest for advancement of his drumming skills has led to schooling in classical music in college. Then taking lessons with master players Joe Morello, Jojo Mayer, Fred Klatz, Frank Belluicci and Kim Plainfield, as well as attending "The Collective," a NYC school geared toward drum set studies. He plays all manner of percussion instruments, as well as piano and guitar.
Although the audition never came to be, in 2001 he made the short list of possible replacement drummers for departing Slayer skins man Paul Bostaph. That year also saw him begin touring with "Favored Nations" (Steve Vai) recording artist Rob Balducci. The trio toured the UK extensively and later completed a tour of the west coast with an appearance at the NAMM show. Later that year he would be invited by Ex Skid Row front man Sebastian Bach to work on new music at his home in NJ.
2003 marked the beginning of what would eventually become Suicide City. The group released an Ep, "Not My Year" a full length "Frenzy" (The End Records) and a DVD "Live From CBGB." (MEI) From 2005 until its eventual disbanding in 2010, the band van toured the United States with Otep, Mindless Self Indulgence, Despairs Ray, Life of Agony, Gwar, Danzig, Dope, Mushroom Head, Taking Back Sunday, The Horror Pops and eventually toured Brazil briefly with M.xP.x.
In between those tours, Danny guested on two Silent Fate recordings, "The autumn Machine" and "Burned Buried & Forgotten." (MEI Records) and appeared on the Mindless Self Indulgence disc "Shut Me Up: the remixes +3." (Metropolis Records) When time permitted, his aggressive chops and high-octane double-bass, coupled with his surgical precision rounded off Silent Fate's rhythm section until 2009.
2010 & 2011 found the drummer touring The United States, Europe and the U.K. with the band Sworn Enemy. In addition to the many headling shows, the band also performed alongside Alice Cooper, Twisted Sister, Agnostic Front, Fear Factory, Messhuggah, Sepultura, Morbid angel, Motor Head, Exodus, Blood for Blood and many others. There were also various studio sessions along the way that should start surfacing by years end.
2012 began with the band Biohazard asking him to sit in for a 3 week european/Uk tour, followed by being invited to los Angeles to audition for Cyber metallers Fear Factory.
While not on tour, Danny is an active teacher and master class instructor. His vast knowledge of music and percussion has kept him busy teaching between tours. He's become known for a highly developed level of technique, coordination and understanding, as well as a primal raw edge that blend into a unique style bridging classical discipline, metal aggression, jazz influenced improvisational tendencies and a rock mentality.
